The Challenge
Life is a funny thing.? It’s full of contradictions, challenges and conundrums.
One particularly challenging facet of “life” is work. Mind you, I’m all for work.? Nothing is more satisfying than the feeling of a job well done. Seeing the end result of your labor and knowing the skills and knowledge gleaned from years of experience have brought you to this point of satisfaction.
This can come from something as simple as mowing the lawn to creating a piece of music or work of art.
In my case it happens to be working with people, building relationships with employees and customers so that the company succeeds.
The problem, as it often is, is not the work but the Job.
Someone once told me “if it weren’t for the people, this job would be perfect”.
So here is the challenge, how to work (be creative, use your talents, enjoy the process) and still deal with the “job”. I am not na?ve. I know assholes and idiots surround us and every day in all of our activities we must learn to deal with these…. well these assholes. It seems though that at every turn these folks are sucking the will out of you, trying to bring you to a point, perhaps down to their level.
A very wise person told me once that I should not be the job. I think I understand were he was going with this. You must always be the individual, the greatest minority on earth. You can become what you do, just not the entity that you do it for.? Does that make since?

A wiser guy than I once said, "To thine own self be true". Anything else I could say would be repetitive. Stay in touch with your core values. That’s the "who" for whom you really work. Oh, one more thing: the paycheck.
