The approaching storm has cooled things off quite a bit. It has been pretty warm. After all, we are in the dog days of summer!
The evening shower is welcomed and much needed.
Sitting on the back porch, enjoying the rain and the rolling rumble I’m reminded of my grand mother Ruby’s home in Baton Rouge.
Grandma Ruby had one of those huge, at least it seemed that way at the time, screened in front porches. There was a metal lawn chair and a glider. These days you’ll find them in the Frontgate catalog in the retro section made in China , and be ready to melt your credit card.
These were the real deal. Comfortable and cool, with just the right amount of squeak .
I’d spend many a afternoon or evening swinging on that glider, enjoying a breeze and recharging from just being a kid at grandma’s.
At some point there was an afternoon when one of those summer thunderstorms caught me out on that screened porch.
I was happy. At peace . Relaxed. It was good.
When we purchased this home, the first thing to do was get the screened in patio in order. It’s not a front porch, sadly that’s gone out of style, but a large area, protected from the Mosquitos and full of green growing stuff.
So here Beaux and I sit, listening to the rain and thunder….. Wishing I had that glider.
