Father’s Day

It was 1972 when none other than Richard Nixon, ole tricky dick, signed the law making Father’s Day a “recognized” day.

Although it is been delayed for almost 60 years, many thought it was a ploy by retailers to find another day to compete with Mother’s Day, this day in June was set aside so we can honor the men who helped create us, raise us and teach us.

Knowing my father, learning it was Nixon that signed the law will leave something of a sour taste behind, nothing a little clear distilled spirits won’t cure though.

Myself, I don’t need a presidential proclamation or for that matter a specific day in the year, to know what an impact my father Jerry has had on my life, but on this day I do honor and remember you. The freedoms you allowed me as a young boy ( we’re you crazy?) allowing me to make some errors without judging me and supporting me when I failed and succeeded, it is why I am who I am today.
