Back to "normal"

Coming back from time away is always tough.
This time, more so it seems.
It doesn’t help that I’ve picked up a sinus infection along the way.
It’s really hard to settle back into the grind. You feel the old pressures and tenseness creeping back and you just want to say “give me a break !” Just a few days ago we were having such a great time, just traveling around enjoying the sights and sounds on the back of our Harley’s. Then you come back to “normal” and find all the same old B.S. is still here. When does that take a vacation.
I guess thats life. Or life as we know it.
To be able to take that peace, freedom and joy you get from time away an keep it with you all the time, now that would be a true gift.
I know of someone who made such an attempt. He changed his life completely and it changed his life completely.

So the standard has been set. Hopefully I’m up for the quest.

On the Road Again

Well, Motorcycle rallies being such as they are, we split early. Ya been to one, you’ve been to all of  ’em.

We did and are having a great time, but cold weather at the beach…I’d rather be ridding. So ride we have. Now we are winding our way back to home base. It’s always good to get back to Texas. Folks elsewhere are just plain odd. Or different. I don’t know. It will just be good to get back where anglish is spoken.

It does look like our little adventure will end as it began….with rain. Such is life. No reason to get flipped out, just grin and bear it.

I have to admit though, we have missed our “kids”.

So don’t tell anyone we will be back a little early..a couple of days of resting up from the vacation will be nice.

Have fun,Be careful

On the way to Fla

Six thirty and ready to go.

At 6:30 you still cannot quite see how the day looks. If  it will be a clear and beautiful day or a little on the cloudy side.

A little on the cloudy side to say the least.

Just past Lake Charles we hit the “Front”. And I mean hit. Black rolling clouds, strong winds and buckets and buckets of rain. A typical Blue Norther.A quick exit to Welsh, La. and we’re looking for a place to dry off. The Dairy Queen was closed, but the manager was nice enough to open up for us to get some coffee and shake off the rain. Typical Louisiana hospitality.

Now it is off to Lafayette and Prejeans. The plan was to eat breakfast there but the storm changed all that. Brunch would have to do. And do it did. This place is a must stop whenever we out this way. GREAT food and perfect coffee.

A little more of the Super Slab and finally we can get to old hwy 90. Riding down the back highway in Mississippi is a treat. Beautiful beaches and most of the  destruction from past storms has been cleared and rebuilding begun or completed. It’s hard to keep a southern boy down.

One important note here. It’s no secret that folks in the south like to eat. It’s hard to comprehend a visit anywhere in the south without food being an important reason to be there. But there is something I did not know. The folks in Mississippi, Alabama and Florida must just love waffle’s.

Starting 10 miles west of Biloxi and continuing all the way to Fort Walton Beach we found a Waffle House every 3 blocks or so. At first it was funny, then we became concerned. Has the Waffle House taken over? Is there no where else to get a breakfast? Could they  be the advanced bases for some alien invasion coming at the end of times on 12/12/12?

Don’t know. But the coffee was good.

Day Two and after a short and cool ride we hit Florida. The Sunshine State does not disapoint.

Lots of sunshine…Its’s still cold as hell though. Time to boogie down the Slab to Pensacola and take a slight detour to hit the beach road well before Fort Walton Beach. Lots of stop and go but some nice little towns along the way.

So we finally get to the Hotel. Right on the beach with a balcony on the 5th floor looking out over the Gulf. Now I know why they call it the Emerald Coast. It is amazing.

We saw this little guy on his custom trike. He seemed to know he was garnering a lot of attention. A real poser. He and his human came quite a ways and he seemed no worse for the wear.
