The trouble with tortilla’s

NOT taken at a restaurant

It’s time to get this off my chest. There is an issue, dare I say a conspiracy relating to the number of tortillas one gets when eating at a Mexican restaurant!

Living in Texas we love our Mexican food. At least once a week we visit one of the many dining establishments in our area that specialize in the taste and treats found south of our border. We have our favorites and each visit rewards us with fine service and excellent dining.

But there is an issue. Tortilla allocation.

There, I’ve said it. There is an organized and deliberate plan in place to limit the number of these tasty and in many cases, required sides to most Mexican dishes.

Last night it was fajitas. A huge plate with a mound of perfectly seared steak, onions and bell peppers arrived at our table…and 3 tortillas! At another restaurant we enjoy they make a dish of four bacon wrapped chicken breast stuffed with plabano peppers and cheese…and 3 tortillas! 4 breast/3 tortillas. See where I’m going here?

It’s the simplest item on the menu to create. It’s probably the least expensive to create yet most restaurants treat the lowly tortilla as if it were caviar!

It’s time to take a stand. Perhaps the new administration in D.C. should get involved!

Or maybe it’s 4:30 on a Saturday morning and I couldn’t sleep.

Probably all the Mexican food I had for dinner…
