This Saturday past we made another Radio Ride.
This one was just an “FM” ride as we rode to Galveston and the Kemah area. Galveston still amazes me. I forget that for the rest of the state, and every where else I suppose, Galveston is a destination. A vacation spot, and Tourist are a funny bunch.
It was fun to sit at “the Spot”, a local dive of sorts, and enjoy a beverage all the while studying the habits and goings on of the locals and visitors. I claim to be neither. Living close but not on the island, I can enjoy being an outsider yet still local enough to understand and not be confused for a tourist. God forbid!
Stopping off in Bacliff for lunch is another story altogether. Everyone here is local. Even if your not.
Noah’s Ark is the place to park your steed, sit outside and enjoy a cold brew or a pitcher of Bloody Mary’s and enjoy the view of the bay. The oysters were great (a first for me) and the weather was perfect. Temp’s in the 70’s in mid-November. Thank god we live on the third coast.
Back to the oysters.
I can not believe I have not had raw or grilled oysters before this weekend. I have lived on the coast the better part of my life and only eaten the fried variety. Grilled with Monterey jack cheese and picante sauce… too good.
I can see that the oyster needs more research on my part. Lots of testing and research. Yup, thats the ticket. Just remember, only eat’ em in months with “r’s”. Has to do with the cold water and the abundance of bad stuff in warm water. I’m no expert but I’ll take their word for it.
Smith Point, where most of the oyster boats dock, isn’t far from here. Maybe I could pick up a sack and Alice would shuck’em for me.
I’ll let you know
Have fun be careful-dh
Funny – I never saw Alice as an oyster shucker. You, on the other hand . . . .
