After a few sleepless nights worrying about the cost of a major repair, I finally hit upon a possible solution to ole yellers ailment.
It turns out the fuel regulator was defective. An o ring had slipped out and caused a loss in fuel pressure. $170.00 later and an hour of my time and she is back up and running fine.
Whew.. dodged another bullet.
Since getting rid of the old shovel head, I had gotten out of practice of tinkering on bikes. There is something to be said for buying new, but when warranties expire, you have to get creative. Luckily it all worked out and the entire trip ended on a high note and was a much needed break for Alice and yours truly.
Now off to Florida in the fall. I’ll take plenty of tools.
